The Armaments Corporation of South Africa Ltd (ARMSCOR) is a South African state-owned entity mandated by the Armaments Development and Production Act, 1968 (Act 57 of 1968), and continues its existence through the Armaments Corporation of South Africa, Limited (Ltd) Act, 2003 (Act 51 of 2003).The Minister of Defence and Military Veterans is the executive authority responsible for Armscor.

The Board

Armscor is a statutory body. The management and control of Armscor resides with the Board of Directors under the leadership of the chairperson Vice Admiral (ret) RJ Mudimu and deputy chairperson, Ms T Skweyiya.

To execute its responsibilities effectively and maintain accountability, the Board established a number of committees:

  • Acquisition Committee
  • Audit and Risk Committee
  • Technology and Industry Support Committee
  • Human Resources, Social and Ethics Committee

Armscor’s vision is to be the premier defence technology and acquisition service provider for the South African Government and our allies on the African continent and the world.

Armscor’s mission is to proactively meet the defence matériel requirements, defence technology, research, development, analysis, tests and evaluation requirements of the Department of Defence and other organs of state effectively, efficiently, economically and holistically.

Strategic Objectives

In order to best achieve the Armscor Strategy On Time – In Time: Towards a Sustainable Future, the following strategic objectives have been identified:

  • Financial turnaround and business re-orientation – to ensure that Armscor generates sufficient income to meet its funding needs in the near to medium term through innovative business initiatives.
  • Acquisition excellence – to meet the SANDF’s matériel requirements on time and in time, based on compliant governance policy, processes and procedures.
  • Technology advancement – to direct and sustain research and development in line with the capability requirements of the DOD.
  • Industry sustainability – to sustain and support the SADI so that it meets the requirements of the SANDF and contributes to economic development.
  • Stakeholder engagement – to build, maintain and strengthen relationships with all stakeholders through different marketing communication and engagement platforms.
